It would seem to me the only people who think the 24 Hour licensing laws had been a succes are the New Labour government, while the rest of us see drink related violent crime becoming ever more prevalent in our society. Anyone who ventures out in the centre of any medium sized town and larger at the weekend in Britain cannot fail to see the effects that cheap booze and liberal licensing laws are having on our society. I want a country where no one is ever afraid to walk the streets and what the government have really said in announcing that 24 Hour licensing is here to stay is that they couldn’t care less about our safety nor right to be left alone to go about our business without fear of harassment or physical attack.

It looks like Alastair Darling is in a bit of a spot with economy still looking decidedly shaky and now with the Northern Rock monkey on his back. It’s not looking good for the ‘dead man walking’. Another bad week on world markets could be spark the end for the chancellor.
